🥁 Lezium – Folk Dance from Maharashtra
💫 A Celebration of Rhythm, Energy, and Tradition 💫
The folk dances of India are the heartbeat of the nation, and Lezium, hailing from Western India, is one of its most spirited treasures. Named after the metallic musical instrument carried by the dancers, this performance blends foot-tapping beats, synchronized steps, and infectious energy.
Originating in Maharashtra, Lezium is often performed during Ganesh Utsav festivities, where communities come together in joy and devotion. With every swing of the instrument and every rhythmic step, the dancers embody the vibrant and resilient spirit of India.
🌟 About the Performers
This lively act is brought to you by members of Sanskriti Cyprus — Shobha Parthasarathy, Aishini Pandiri, Sahiti Pandiri, Swathi Balathandapani, Anita Bhatt, and Natalia Hurhangee — who have been pioneering the presentation of this folk art in Cyprus. Their passion for keeping traditions alive has made Lezium a beloved fixture of Namaste Cyprus, and this year marks their fifth performance of the dance on our stage.
🎭 What to Expect
In just over three minutes, the group will sweep you into a whirlwind of movement and music — the metallic clink of the Lezium mingling with the beats, the coordinated choreography reflecting years of practice, and the infectious smiles making you want to dance along.
